Dear All,
I'm writing to let you know, that after 5 years of owning Counter-Strike DL, I am now moving on. I'm now 21 years old and have other responsibilities in my life. I have a few other web projects that I'm working on and would like to focus more attention on... I have a house and a full-time job, and a busy social life. But most of all, I just feel like the time is right for me to move on.
The site has been sold to a new Admin called Max who will be making steps to help CSDL grow and improve.
When I think about the last 5 years I can remember all the different emotions that CSDL has brought me:
The joy of the site really taking off and growing. The anger of having the site hacked. The frustrations of server problems. The pride of seeing a community grow.
And now, the sadness of having to say goodbye.
I'll be checking up on how everything is going every now and then... but I'm afraid this is goodbye from me. Thank you all so much for giving your time and effort to this community, and please continue to do so.
If you'd like to contact me you can do so by emailing elliot at haughin.com

For some time now, we've been working on new Steam features that make it a lot easier to play games with friends. This week, we announced The Steam Community, bringing the features one step closer to a Steam client near you. Over the next few weeks we'll reveal more details and, in July, the beta version of the Steam Community will give you a chance to explore the features for yourself.
We're cranking away on the Orange Box games and have zeroed in on a release date for Half-Life: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. All three games will be available on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on October 9th. Should be an exciting day.
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is now available for Windows XP exclusively on Steam, which means everyone in the office is trying to crack Doug Wood's high score. We should probably all just give up and finish building our own games: clearly, we have our hands full.
New season, new wearables: Just in time for summer, we’ve stocked the Valve Store with two new t-shirt designs - "Evolution" and "Hand."

Hey, as promised, here's the second video podcast. The last one was daft and drunk but not to the point. This one is to the point but not as drunk.... next podcast... We'll be right in between. Perfect Balance!
So, please leave your comments and of course... vote in Rob's poll!

This summer Valve will ship a major update to its online gaming platform Steam, introducing an advanced set of community features to more than 13 million gamers around the world.
Beginning in July, Steam users can set up their own personal Steam pages and profiles, create and join groups, schedule games with friends, review who they've played with, see how well everyone played, chat with groups, chat via voice, and more. These new community services and features can be used with all Steam games, which include new releases and classic titles from leading publishers and independent developers.
Free of charge, the new community features will be accessible via the Steam desktop client and via the web.
"Our community has given us great direction on the ways they want to see Steam evolve," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Adding these new community features to make it easier to connect with other gamers is something we've wanted to see on Steam for a long time and this latest update is just the start. We've got a long list of items that we're working on to make it easier for gamers to connect and play games on Steam."
This upgrade marks the largest extension to the Steam platform since its first commercial release in March 2004. In its three year history, Steam has defined the next generation online gaming platform delivering hundreds of games to millions of users with services such as Guest Passes, Automatic Updates, Free Weekends, and allowing gamers to access their games from any PC.
So, is this the future MySpace of gaming? - will xfire take a hit? Will there be a developer API so sites like CSDL can use stuff from the steam community?
Well - It's all a bit vague really, what's your thoughts.

Client forwards server commands it doesn't understand back to the server
sv_pure 1 now allows custom spray decals by default
Valve have confirmed the release date of Half-Life: Episode 2, and Team Fortress 2. They will both be released October 9th 2007 for ALL platforms! - That's PC, 360, and PS3.
It will sell for $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Previously, the company intended to sell a slimmer package, The Black Box, which would not include Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode One, but those plans were cancelled last month. It is expected that Steam customers will retain the option to purchase only the newly-released games.
I'm wondering if this release date will be anything else like their previous release dates.... slippy!
